Were Neandertals Thought Attractive in Their Own Day? My mind collects a LOT of data, and it's been around over seven decades. There's a lotta stuff packed in here and every now and then it synergizes something, as minds do. Problem being that by the time enough thoughts collide, I no longer recall good scientific-style references to cite. Here's a case that's really annoying me: The modern idea of the ugliness of Neanderthals is based on poor reconstructions done in Darwin's day. The model used was an arthritic elderly skeleton and influenced by passe notions of evolution. Plus "everyone" thought they were extinct. But what did our (Cro Magnon) people think? It turns out that enough of us thought they were just fine that many Caucasian people have up to 4% Neandertal genes. Asian peoples have less, but also thought they were perfectly acceptable mates.
